    I had similar luck with my iPod touch while I was in BsAs. As it was explained to me the apple stores there are 'authorized' but are not actually owned by Apple-- a franchise of sorts. Being so, they can 'repair' if your item is under Apple warranty (not a 3rd party) -but they won't touch it...
