A word of warning to people anyone that may receive a call from or meet with anyone from the DeVere group, they are targeting your pensions and in 99% of the time these types of solutions/advice are unsuitable or the adviser is simple looking to make as much commission as they can.. I'm a UK...

    Vine tasting in BsAs

I highly recommend 0800-vino (www.0800-vino.com) for both tastings and purchases. They have tastings every week or so in their cellar. The owner is a very knowledgeable guy and has a great selection of different Argentine wines on offer.

    Buying a new kitchen

Hi Matt, I recently moved flats I had to purchase everything other than the kitchen fixtures and found that most of the decent stuff is custom made and only slightly more expensive than the pre-made poor quality stuff sold in the likes of Easy/Sodimac. I would recommend visiting the many small...

The Obama vs Romney battles continues

I find the US elections even more amusing than the Argentine ones and not necessarily in a good way. The thought of either of these candidates getting elected (or re-elected) is worrying…..

    Best/favourite things about BA

Wines can generally be found cheaper outside of their country of origin as they avoid substantial local taxes that would otherwise be added. With this in mind you would likely find Argentine wine cheaper in countries with big wine markets. Still, the wide range of little known but fantastic...

Didn't take too long for this (yet another) tread to go negative. Can we just have one positive tread for a change?

Where to buy cheap Chicken Breast, cheap brocolli and cheap apples

I would recommend to those with a car to head to Makro (http://www.makro.com.ar). Cash and carry set up with several large stores. While you have to buy some products in larger quantities (e.g. water in 6 bottle packets), it is not the case with all items and it is much much cheaper than any...

    Posting packages overseas

I have not had any letters go amiss and generally they arrive slightly later than the estimated delivery times. Only once did one take a week or two more to arrive.

    Posting packages overseas

No problem. I would simply risk it. I would be very surprised if it does get stopped by NZ Customs other than for any standard checks.

    Posting packages overseas

I have tried many times to send things to NZ (both new and used) from here and only about 20% of the stuff ever arrived. That was using both Correo Argentina and Orca. Since then I have not bothered and would avoid both these companies I have never heard about that restriction on used items and...

    Men's Field Hockey? Who knew?

Out of the whole 12 countries that compete in the winter Olympics :p Personally I think they are both dull sports to watch.

    Men's Field Hockey? Who knew?

I'm not really a fan of hockey (neither discipline) but remember reading somewhere recently that field hockey is the third most popular sport in the world after football (soccer) and cricket. It’s a big sport in India, Asia and the commonwealth. If I remember correctly, Ice Hockey didn't make it...

No dollar purchases (for locals) unless travelling abroad?

That's perfect and each to their own I guess. The point of posting the list was to demonstrate that everyone has their own idea of what constitutes a "high quality of life" and more often than not this depends on where/how they were brought up.

1 day wine tasting in Mendoza.

When I was visiting Mendoza with my family we had a private wine tour with Javier (http://www.plazaitalia.net/en/wine-tours.html) and I was extremely pleased with the tour. Javier is an extremely knowledgeable and friendly guide. He provided a van for us and we visited 4 wineries (two big ones...

    YPF Nationalized

Nothing personal but I wouldn't want to put the name out there on a public forum. Anyway, my point is that there are companies that view the Argentine market as a risk worth taking even in this climate.

    YPF Nationalized

I have to disagree on this point. I'm a kiwi and work for a multinational NZ company that has entered the Argentine market and is looking to investment in what is looking to be a very lucrative market. That said, we are in a market where thankfully we don't need to import or export anything in...

New York or Miami for shopping

I agree that LAN is the best option available to the US but as she left it too late the flights were around US$500 more expensive than AA. However she will still earn OW miles with AA that can be used at a later date on LAN.
