Hi, my name is Chris. Here from Minneapolis. A few weeks ago, the company I work for asked me if I wanted assignment BA. I have never been here, knew no one in my new work group, know zero spanish, and have kids and dogs I love spending time with. My answer - sure!

I figured this is my one chance to to live in a far away land and experience a totally new culture and lifestyle. I absolutely love it here so far. But, long for some contact with people whom I can understand and have been in my situation. Stumbled upon this sight - would be interested in meeting new people and getting out!

Please reach out if interested in getting to know me.

Chris

Hi Chris and welcome. This is the site for you. There are a few organized activities with forum members. One is the Wednesday Coffee chats. There is a pub chat on Fridays. And there is a monthly book club with potluck, (currently reading "The Orientalist " by Tom Reiss) that meets the last Wednesday of every month in Recoleta. Any of these events should result in good conversation and contacts!

Hi Chris,

I feel for ya but I can see you are have the right attitude. Try to drop by at one of the Expat event, but mostly, try to hang out with the locals and to exploit this adventure in South America!
How long do you plan to stay here?

Good man yourself, I spent a year in minneapolis in the mid 90s and try and keep in some way in touch with the disastrous Vikings ever since. Had a great year, but I am not built for snow at all!

Definetly get a spanish teacher, get your employers to shell out as part of your professional development if you can.

If you are working the coffee chats can be tricky to get to. Pro tip...ask your coworkers if you can buy the medialunas one Friday morning. You'll get them onside.

Hi guys, here for 2 years and will definitely go to the events. I start my spanish training tomorrow. All in for sure - like everything in life that I do. Woo hoo!

Get a blue beret and try some yerba! Try the parilla on the corner of humahuaca y acuna de figaroa in Almagro....ask for entranya....thats phoenetic.....
