VIDEO: Club de Reparadores

1st July 2016 Indy Staff

At the ‘Club de Reparadores‘ (Repair Club), skilled volunteers host pop-up events to repair and restore old or damaged items for free. Whether electronics, clothes, or books, the message is simple: we need to stop creating unnecessary waste by discarding goods that can be fixed.

The PUNTO VERDE MOVIL truck is on the streets to carry away your old electronics.

July 12-15 at the corner of Corrientes and Reconquista

July 18-22 at the corner of Florida and Marcelo T. de Alvear

from 9AM to 2PM

They accept all kinds of communication equipment and small household appliances. If this kind of stuff goes into a garbage container, it doesn't get recycled.

I'm going to bring old notebooks, a cellphone, and a video camera.

Anyone have updated info on where to dispose a dead PC battery?

If it's a SONY battery, they will accept it at SONY ARGENTINA, Rivadavia 2424. I was there an hour ago and learned that they accept only SONY. I had four Energizer and Duracell AA batteries to recycle, but they won't accept them. The city has this location listed on the site for recycling. He said they tell people to throw one per day into the garbage. That's not a solution; they explode. The city has to provide locations for recycling batteries.

For Punto Verde locations that accept electronics, check the city website. I took my old light fixtures to Plaza Martin Fierro last week for recycling.

Years ago I dropped off two PC batteries at Battery Center, Av. de Mayo 817 Local 51 (9-19hs Mon-Fri), but I don't know if they're still receiving them for recycling.

I walked by Av. de Mayo 817 Local 51 today and inquired whether they still accept notebook batteries. They do not. However, they have a container for depositing A and AA batteries for recycling. The woman said Hospital Italiano has a container for common batteries.

The city isn't providing sources for recycling common batteries which so many people throw out with their garbage.

There are days when I see more garbage and recyclables outside of the designated containers than inside. The city has decided to reorganize how recyclables are handled. I found a flier with information about the new system of collecting recyclable materials at our building door today. They are sending "recuperadores urbanos" to each location in each neighborhood from Monday to Friday, 18 - 20 hours to supervise the collection of recyclable materials. That way those working in the street will not be going through the container and taking what they want to sell.

Check with your encargado or mailbox for one of the fliers. You can find the location where you should leave your recyclables by entering your address on www.buenosaires.gob.ar/reciclables All materials should be clean and dry -- paper, carton, newspapers, tetra; plastic bottles, bags, plates, plastic utensils; aluminium cans; glass bottles and jars.

it makes no sense to me that there is almost a complete absence of these points in microcentro/puerto madero
