Argentina Appoints Malvinas Secretary

Right because the government should not do anything else other than sort out two underperforming private companies. Everyone go home until Edenor and Edesur have the resources to fix their exploding sub-stations?

The malvinas job is transparent sop to nationalism in an attempt to prove their credentials with the flag wavers, however it's facile to suggest that a political appointment has anything to do with exploding electricity substations in a heatwave. These two companies are worthless, I do believe they should remain private, but like most industries they require regulation, once those conditions of service levels are breached they should have their licenses revoked. Actually I believe the suppliers should be privatised but some essential parts of the grid should be in public ownership so that the govt can be put on the hook. We also need some proper building regulation around how air conditioning units are applied to buildings and incentives for double glazing etc. Instantly remove susbsidies from Buenos Aires, because that is a farce. Salaries are lower in Cordoba and Rosario, it's hotter there, they need Ac more..yet they have to pay more. Nuts. Clientelismo.

As for the non issue of the Malvinas job, well, poor old Filmus had to get some sort of gig somewhere didn't he? Nobody really dislikes him, he doesn't have to achieve anything in this role other than add an intellectual veneer to the diplomatic sniping.

Once I had probably the most extraordinary book collection ever assembled regarding the Malvinas/Falkland dispute. Spent the best part of 4 years gathering all sorts of historical documents and writings in french, english and spanish from Argentina, the US and Europe. Between 82 and 87 I studied the subject for my pol sci final presentation, worked on historical and legal aspects since before the discovery of the New World, not just the armed conflict of 82.
Held on to it for decades and eventually tried to donate it to the library of the Foreign Affairs Ministry. When they showed no interest, I tried the Department of the Foreign Affairs and talked a few times to the then head honcho.

They only needed to send someone to pick the books two (2) fucking blocks from their office building. It proved too much of an herculean task.

Goes to show how much we care unless is timely and politically convenient.

The only thing they push is for those extra bucks while visiting abroad.

Actually I think they are trying to give Filmus a job. He lost EVERY election he compited, a complete loser.
Now we know we will NEVER the islands back!!

There's a copy of my dissertation on the Islands in the UBA library, at the FCO, and in the Stanley Public Library.
