Banks launch a national strike in demand of a wage increase
The Banking Association today called for a national strike in all the entities of the country -both public and private banks- for next Friday 9 in rejection of a salary proposal of 9 percent raised by the business chambers in the framework of the joint negotiation of the sector, as announced at noon by the general secretary of the union, Sergio Palazzo.

This my friends is why the inflation conundrum continues.. Its the old chicken and the egg... What came first - inflation or the expectation of inflation?

There is no way inflation will drop if every year everyone gets 15-25% pay rises.

Bank employees have always had salary raises above official inflation rates....What the heck

John Doe - Why should I care?
Perhaps the news doesn't affect you. But it may affect expats who utilize ATM's to obtain pesos. The dispensers will not be filled with cash the night before or the day of the strike. Now they have added 2 extra days to the strike....Monday 19 and Tuesday 20.

It is not above. It is set a bit below, and adjusted to the official rate at the end of the year when inflation data is published (cláusula gatillo). At least this is the way it used to be.

And now with official inflation of 24.8% this year, the government wants to max salary increases to 15% and limit it to 9% for the banking sector.

Bank employees indeed have had salary raises above inflation rates all along. During the K years when the INDEC published "fudged" figures, the Bancaria negotiated increases utilizing numbers provided by the Universidad Catolica Arg as compiled by independent economists.

Time to hoard wine and meat as my Parilla is dysfunctional without these two main ingredients.
