Blocking nuisance cell calls

Five days and counting...... no annoying phone calls since I blocked them in my iPhone. Hallelujah........!!!!

I don't get why they are doing this?
Can they possibly be acquiring new business at a good cost through harrassing potential new customers?
Similarly the Mackeeper software package keeps trying to sneak onto my Apple Computer. They seem to be on every other webpage I open, under different names, telling me that my computer is infected or other lies in order to get me to download their software.
