Buenos Aires Must Be A Fine Example Of Modern Capitalism

What Google is doing is 100% legal. No laws are being broken. Google is NOT being accused of tax evasion or tax fraud. Google is being "accused" of using all LEGAL means at their disposal to reduce their tax bill. Who does not do that? I certainly do, or at least try to. Don't you? Eric has no reason to be ashamed of using every possible LEGAL resource available to pay less taxes. Why should he? Why should anyone feel ashamed of doing legal things to pay less tax?

Also, I much rather Google keep their money and use it to do cool things for humanity, like self-driving cars, renewable energy, mining asteroids in space, open source software that is transforming the 3rd world, or heavily subsides laptops for education than to give to to uncle Sam so that it can be used for Drone strikes in the middle east, torture in Guanatamo or Wall Street bail outs.

That's what expensive tax accountants are for, to find loopholes in tax laws!!

I'd much rather they paid for hospitals, schools, police, roads etc. But ultimately it's a government's responsibility to ensure that companies such as Google pay tax. La culpa no es del chancho...

The largest discretionary item of the US Federal budget is defense, by a very large margin. So that is where the bulk of all corporate taxes end up.

The article is about Google not paying taxes in the UK.

I'd much rather Google do whatever the hell they want to do with their money. They are following all the legal rules set by the said government AND they are making their investors happy...Let's see: Everything legal, investors happy, cool. Awesome. Those who don't like it can go screw themselves.

On the other hand, if they have broken the law and "evaded" taxes, they should be punished for that. Other than that, I don't even see why this is news.

PS: If the people in the UK don't like what Google is doing, ask your representatives to change the tax code. The governments allow this to happen because they are incompetent, and then they whine about it.

AHHH thanks for the words of explanation Guys!

So AFIP are doing a tremendous job then!!

In fact they should be given every encouragement by BA Expats!!

Sure if what AFIP is doing is according to the law and according to the will of the people here. I wouldn't call selective application of the law, especially and curiously against people Cristina does not agree with or those who don't agree with Cristina a "job well done" but hey, that's just me!

EDIT: Also creation of law to target a specific company (like Clarin here) is abuse of power by the legislative and the executive branches. So encourage AFIP so they can target those that don't agree with the government? Yeah, not a chance!

Agree with this. Unimpressed by politicians whining about google being "unethical". Google's obligation is to deliver profits to their shareholders, not taxes to the exchequer. I'd rather Google contributed to the economy they are profiting from, but its on the British government to ensure they do, not Google.
