And now for some good news:
http://filminginargentina.wordpress.com/2014/02/13/buenosaireslocations/
Buenos Aires is always a popular spot for filming. In 2013 the city saw over 300 commercials shoot in its streets, 72 of which were international productions, as well as 46 different local TV shoots and a total of 31 film shoots overall, including Focus staring Will Smith.

Have you seen any interesting film or commercial shoots in your neighborhood?

Yep! I shot for one - TD Ameritrade - in Microcentro. (Don't ask where I am. It was between me and the grandma at 0:13 and the Grandma won.) Lots of fun. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PZC1ureryCA&feature=em-uploademail The train station is Constitución!

TD shot another one here as well. The book signing was at El Ateneo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ng2P77oA50Y

Thanks for those commercials, they really show the value of Buenos Aires as a location double.

Carlsberg beer - Also shot here in 2012. You'll recognize Plaza Tribunales at the end.

Anyway, there are tons.

Anyone know about work as "extras" in BA? Does it exist? Even for gringos (with DNI)?

Definitely exists. Pay is not good, though. On the TD Ameritrade commercial I mentioned they were paying $250 pesos for an 8-hour day. They pay for your lunch but separate you from all the "talents" (as they call the "real actors") as if you were pawn scum. The highest I have heard is 500 pesos for a day's work. Pay varies, of course. If they have a hard time finding what they want, pay goes up. If you're interested, send me a PM and I can send you a list of agencies you can contact.
