Can I Get My Argentina Residency While Living The Us?

My wife and I got married a while ago in the USA. We currently live here in Argentina, but we are returning to the USA in a couple of months, and we'll be mostly there for the next couple of years.

What I'm wondering is: Can I just go ahead and "tramitar" my Argentine residency (as the spouse of an Argentine citizen) while I'm in the USA via the Argentine consulate there rather than having to wait and do it in a few years when we come back to Argentina?
 
If you get your residency and leave Argentina and return in a few years you'll lose it and will have to apply for it again. I think a resident visa is contingent upon you living in the country that grants it to you.
