This may be an obvious no, and if so I apologize. However, another country I was looking at (Chile) has a similar (though obviously not the same) periodic income visa that, without getting into the timing intricacies, allows you to work. They way that visa is explained on many forums and the Chilean government website, it doesn't specifically state you are allowed to work with it so I had originally assumed you couldn't. I realize no two countries are the same so I have no expectation that it is the same type of situation with the rentista visa in Argentina. However, given I was pleasantly wrong about Chile, I thought it couldn't hurt to ask about Argentina. I know the forum refers to the rentista visa as not a work visa, but that is pretty much how it was referred to on the Chile forums even though you can work with it (The reason being is the forum goers assume people who are looking to work are less likely to have periodic income and thus a person looking to work probably wouldn't be interested in the periodic income visa). I guess I just don't want to leave the question unasked here like I did for so long on the Chile forum. Thanks in advance for the help.

Once you have a precaria ( temporary acceptance of yr application) from a rentista visa = temporary Green card

Once you have the national ID ( called DNI) from your temporary residency= Green Card

Get one of them , you are legal and can work as you please!

In order to work you will also need a CUIL from ANSES. It will be your DNI number plus three additional numbers. Once you have the CUIL you will also be able to open a bank account.

PS: I believe someone posted that they were able to get a CUIL with the "precaria" before they actually received their DNI but I'm not sure if that is possible.

Rentista = A person of independent means
Why would someone want or need to go to work and take someone's job?
Only in Argentina.

That sounds a little socialist/communist if not no offense intended.

Work for some of us gives us far more than a monetary return. I do not believe I have worked for the money in over 10 years now. I just do what I love to do the benefits follow that. Not saying I/we dont need the money it is just part of the process.

There is also a level of life that is independent but with not allot of extra income like social security. In which case a few extra pesos can make life a bit more enjoyable not to mention the sense of accomplishment that goes along with working.

Just my 2 cents...

The reason you can't understand is because you're not that someone. God forbid someone be in a situation you're great mind can't fathom. As pensador kindly pointed out, my passive income could supply me with an ok life but I would like to supplement that. I'm not looking for an extravagant lifestyle nor the bare minimum. Im also pretty young and know that things could change, and don't want to be caught in a bad situation with a large resume gap. Is this an acceptable explanation to you?

yes, you can work. However, entering the country, and being questioned what do I do here, I say that I live here, without mentioning work. I don't want the complication for my company, because they will have to pay higher taxes for hiring the foreigner.

Also, there are those that have rental income that pay for their mortgages or perhaps the taxes and expenses. We could do this all night as there are so many scenarios to list for the rentista visa. Besides, if they want to work, who can seriously argue with that?
