Christina Kirchner has passed a new law banning the publication of advertisements that promote sexual services. This new law comes into effect very soon and will have a huge effect on the earnings of Clarin and La Nacion judging by the profileration of these type of advertisements

I understand the reasoning behind this law but also do not support censorship . I like to hear our readers comments in regards to this new law.

I think the ads will just change -- right now they can be explicit about what services they offer (what was the phrase my husband threw out this morning when we saw the same headline... think it was something like "colito sin globito"!)

Other countries get around it by advertising as escort services, dates etc. If there's one thing Argentines are great at it's sexual innuendos -- they'll find a way to keep advertising without being explicit. In fact I'm sure a whole new vocab will result!

It may be a little harassment of the press but I doubt it as I don't believe its a big piece of advertising revenue for the newspapers. Also it would impact all newspapers whether they are pro or anti government. Hate to break it to people but using newspapers to advertise anything is really last century thinking. Newspapers are going the way of the dinosaurs. The ban will be quickly just spawn a bunch more web-sites and listing on things like Craig's List which will be more easily available and provide more details on what services are available. It will be a more efficient way for the folks to market their services.

With all the little advertisements on the public telephones and every other feasible place that they can be put. It would make more sense to only allow advertising in the classifieds and that way no one would see it.

Cristina is the best woman, honest, efficient and democratic that this country do have since Eva Peron, and I will go even one step further on this, so a little respect for the maximum head of this country will be appreciated.
Thanks.

Now to the point...

The situation here is that these anti-government newspapers stirred public opinion with the issue of human trafficking, a problem which is true and real, and on the other hand these same newspapers are free to profiteering on item 56 by advertising unrestricted and at the same time demanding the government to solve this huge problem, bastards hoodlums and corrupt hypocrites.
So the idea of this decree is to stop these operators commercialize the easy way on the misery of human trafficking and their sexual exploitation. These newspapers bastards want to have two bob each way, this will stop them somehow to continuing doing that.
Good on you Cristina.

The idea that the removal of these ads will do anything against human trafficking is as ridiculous as Cristina actually caring about the issue for anything more than her political agenda.

ps. ("That bitch!..is the best woman, honest, efficient and democratic that this country do have since Eva Peron, and I will go even one step further on this, so a little respect for the maximum head of this country will be appreciated.")

that made me laugh. thank you.

I'm surprised that a left of center government would do this. It will apparently include the internet. I imagine liberal countries like the Netherlands do not attempt to censor so it seems strange that the Kirchner administration would want to impose restrictions.

Does anybody see where is the RESPECT? I think he is lost, if someone find it, please, tell him about this post!

You buy all that crap !? You are a fool ! Both the country and CFK would be better off if she got laid every now and then. Just like everybody else is better off when they get laid every now and then (or more often than that). This move is electioneering and more arrogant social engineering. Disgusting.

Well, no more of those annoying post-its all over the place. It seems to me that K's motives are ulterior, since as Canick pointed out the idea of more limited advertising affecting human trafficking is absurd. Of course, if the move were motivated by a desire to relegate the sleazier elements to a more appropriate audience it would make far more sense.
