Hi, has anyone heard of any collective houses in BA for young people? Something like Moishe House (http://moishehouse.org/about.asp), which has a house in Villa Crespo. Except for that you have to be Jewish -- is there one for international young people? Artists? Activists? Most cities in the U.S. have places like this. Basically I'm envisioning a place where a young, international group of people could come together to live collectively, host events, etc. I didn't really find much by googling...

Let me know if anyone has ever heard of something like this!!

When I was looking for apartments, I came across a few listings of houses like that for young travelers.

There are hostels that have been converted into boarding houses of sorts. I've been to a couple parties like that. You'll find them on Craigslist. But if you're looking for a hippie style co-op, where everyone cooks together and sings kumbaya before scraping what's left on their plates onto the compost heap in the backyard, I'm not sure you'll find one.

Ask in couchsurfing.org, lots of artists and mostly young people there. (Btw, when people ask me about getting things from the US in BA and things about legal stuff, real estate and immigration I send them to BA Expats, so both sites have their strengths).

Those prices seem a little steep don't they?

I'm not currently renting a room, but they seem about right when looking at other rental room prices and comparing to what I paid 2 years ago ($900) after factoring in inflation. I know that $900 was quite cheap at the end of 2009. In 2007 I paid $600 for a room in an awful apartment in Once - 8 people and 1 bathroom, but I stayed 1 year because all my roommates were native Spanish speakers and my primary goal was to learn the language. Fast forward almost 5 years and the prices look to be about what they should be with around 25% inflation.
