The events, march, today in Colombia are different than the other protests happening around Latin America....being that they are planned events and then there will be thousands of military and police escorting the marchers. Of course things can get out of control and of course there will be taggers writing on walls. This is pretty much one man's opinion.

This will be the biggest march/nationwide strike in some 40 years in Colombia. Seems like the only group not striking are the expats in Colombia, of which there are hardly any. There are soooo many forces at play in Colombia that something like this will surely be a barometer of the tolerance level of all interests in Colombia One provocative element that is relatively new is the problem of integration of the Venezuelan population into Colombian life. The economic impact of the migrant population is impossible to gauge.....every corner of every city in Colombia is becoming an encampment for Venezuelans (I say this without prejudice) The eventual problems associated with this are frightening....along with the growing drug influences. Pick your evil.

This is not as true as was once the case. There are more and more expats in Medellin all the time. Many live there year round, are buying property, and calling Colombia home.

Hi I’m Jeff Paschke. I’m an expat originally from the U.S. currently living in Medellín, Colombia, which is known as the “city of eternal spring”. I have lived here for over eight years.
Welcome to our travel blog about Medellín and Colombia that was launched in July 2017. This is where I and additional writers share entertaining stories; cover the best places; provide useful travel tips, living tips, retirement tips and relocation tips; offer amazing photos and sometimes fun-filled adventures in Medellín and the rest of Colombia.

It seems like a Deja vu..! the requests of the Protesters in Colombia are exactly the same as the requests of the Chilean Protesters..?
  1. Medical Care quality
  2. Retirement, Pensions
  3. Reduction of Unemployment
  4. Salaries
  5. Education Quality and Cost
  6. etc.

Colombian President Iván Duque instructed the authorities in Bogota to impose an overnight curfew on the entire Colombian capital, as 20,000 uniformed police were deployed to “establish order” amid anti-government protests.
