So I just moved (for the 3rd time in a month) to Corrientes y Callo and I want to know if any of you have suggestions regarding things to do here. Principally: good bars and cheap restaurants. I'd really appreciate the opportunity to pick the collective mind on this one!

I attend a Portuguese conversation class at the corner but have never eaten anywhere right there
there is , however, a small theatre on Corrientes on the odd side between Junin and Ayacucho I think that has very cheap deals and very cheap drinks; they have an outdoor area too!

It's not gourmet, but I used to love going to Pippo just off of Corrientes for vermicelli with a big scoop of pesto. Old fashioned with awesome waiters.

The Sala Leopoldo Lugones which just re-opened in the Teatro San Martin is where you can see great cinema for cheap.

Bar "La Academia", pinturesque, traditional bar full of old porteños playing domino.

Before tea time (4pm) El Gato Negro is a good place to do some work and drink some tea/coffee, maybe have a slice of their budins and cuadraditos. They have a Colombian coffee that others have commented is good.

Also, in the area, Ayer (Marcelo T. de Alvear 1679) is a cute little cafe that also has wifi and good lunch items (not sure about the coffee)

Some of my favorite places in this neighborhood: Pasaje Santos Discépolo (there is a theater, and also a bar in front of it, which organizes poetry nights, etc.), Paseo La Plaza. Bodegón Norte (a traditional bodegón porteño), is not far away (Talcahuano 953). The coffee house on Lavalle and Rodríguez Peña (Tienda de café?) has excellent cakes. The Rojas center on Corrientes and (almost) Junín is a good place not just for taking classes, but also for grabbing a coffee and chatting with interesting people at the cafeteria inside.

I've not been yet but i've passed it many times. Is it actually good? The huge colourful jukebox puts me off a bit.

There's a couple of peruvian places near by in congreso.
