The new headquarters of the Homeland Security Department were to open its door in 2015, so learning that it's running behind and the original price has almost doubled is hardly news to anyone. But it is this kind of projects that give the best insights on how those in power see our country.
If the project had been on track, we will be seeing a new 176-acre campus with 50 brand new buildings housing 22 different federal agencies and tens of thousands of workers about to open its doors.
At the heart of this massive complex the headquarters of DHS will be housed in St. Elizabeth's Hospital: A former site of federal mental asylum. No kidding.
Learning how our US had been turned into a mass-surveillance state, wouldn't a mental asylum be the perfect location for this department, along the lines of the "Ministry of Love"?
