Starting reading into DNI and/ or residency requirements and quickly became confused. Hope to sort out a few things:

+Is there a difference between DNI and residency?

+Do you need a work visa before applying to either one? Is temporary residency also required?

+If someone is living/working remotely in Argentina (for a forgein co. that does not have an office in Argentina), does that mean DNI and/or residency isn´t an option for them?

Thanks!

The DNI is just a national identity card that is automatically issued after your residency is granted. It is not necessary to apply for it separately.

Temporary residency is a category of residency. Residency transitoria (tourist) and permanente (permanent) are the other two.

Temporary residency is based on several different types of visas: work, student, investor, retiree, etc. Some (but not all) lead to permanent residency on the third renewal.

If someone is working for a company that is not licensed to do business in Argentina and is not registered with migraciones to hire foreigners they will not be able to get a work visa (which confers temporary residency) or a DNI.

90 day business visas may be available but they would not confer temporary residency or the DNI.

The migraciones website has detailed information for all of the visas and the DNI. Go to the website and check on the link to RADICACIONES NO MERCOSUR: Residencia Temporia.

Argentina has an immigration law that confuses the visas with the residence permits.
You can just renew you i-94 every 3 months or overstay if you want to live here and to apply for citizenship after 2 years.
If you apply for the residency and it is rejected, a deportation order is going to be enacted in 3 months.
