"The operation of buying dollars via the Stock Exchange is at this moment a boom. The possibility of buying dollars without paying the 30% tax and for amounts that do not have the limit of USD 200 per month makes more and more investors resort to this route until recently considered sophisticated to reach the desired dollars."

The Mechanism

It consists, barely, in transferring the Pesos that you want to change to the principal account of a bank or stock exchange brokerage account. Once that is done, what follows is to use the pesos to buy Bonar 2024 bonds, in immediate cash (that is, to avoid the settlement terms at 24 and 48 hours). With the bonds in the account, the last step is to resell them in exchange for dollars also in immediate cash, to be able to complete the entire operation the same day. If then transferred to the bank, the dollars can be withdrawn through a window for a trip or to be stored under the mattress.

except the value of $MEP is above the blue...so why do they bother?

IMHO because it's legal. If you have 100 MM pesos in your Bank Account , go to the Cueva and turn them into dollars. The Tell the AFIP what?
Or they are masochists who love paperwork..!

that you spent it on hookers & booze...don't think anyone who's intelligent enough to use bolsa would keep any 'meaningful' sum of pesos in a bank.
and if they are legally earned, why would one have to report to AFIP on how they were spent? one can say 'given to the poor' eh?

FYI you have the duty of depositing all the money you cash in the bank no matter if you withdraw the day after.

Every time you go to a cueva, you risk your life.

Where do you think the cuevas get the money? Drugs normally.

if you are Carrefour or IBM, a legit way to get usd is like important.

Let's cut the crap for a minute and act like adults.

The cueva is just another very, very argentinian way of doing business. Shady? Sure.
Also, most likely run with the knowledge and rented approval of the closest Comisario and more.

Know thy Cuevas and it will be business as usual.
