Exchanging USD for pesos

Hi guys,

I send money to Argentina on a regular basis from the UK but can only send in USD. Businesses are usually OK accepting USD, but when sending to an individual account as i will need to do soon, they will need pesos.

I have a few questions about this: What are the charges on changing incoming USD to pesos? What are the exchange rates like? How much do fees and rates differ from bank to bank?

If you do this officially you will get 4.5 pesos for each dollar. If you do it in the black market or with one of us expats who has pesos to sell here, you can get $5.5 pesos or so. For larger amounts (more than $10-20K USD) you can probably get close to $5.9.

Even on smaller amounts it's possible to get 5.80 or so. (And about 6.70/6.80 for the Euro)
