Now I`m being told that my FedEx is NOT in Memphis.

They lost my package, and will start investigation.

Exactly what I was afraid of for 3 months.

the only way to insure delivery of stuff like this into argentina is to use a human "mule".
That is, get somebody to carry it on their person on the airplane.
My trick for this is to encourage my US friends to come down for vacations, assuring them I will lead them to great restaurants, hidden tango parlours, great museums, and wonderful architecture.
They often pay for dinner, too.

You cannot trust the mail, or the international delivery services, for anything important of valuable.

At least they pretend to start an investigation. This does not only happen in Argentina, it happens everywhere. With scanners, people know exactly what you are sending and if it is something valuable, chances are it gets lost without explanation. The only way to prevent theft is to carry valuables with you.

Last January, when I took the plane from Budapest to Brussels, I left 90 euro in my luggage. When I got my luggage back, the lock was forced open and the money gone. I went to make a theft declaration, but the response I got was that it made no sense to do so and that the theft was my fault, because when purchasing a plane ticket, I had agreed to the terms and conditions, which state it is forbidden to carry valuables in your checked luggage.

I have had valuables shipped with regular post stolen without trace as well. It is a bad customer service, but not much you can do about it.

Besides, shipping cheques is not allowed - it is like shipping money. You sound old enough to have known this better!

http://www.fedex.com/in/domestic/services/restrictions.html This page is for domestic shipping, there is sure another one for international shipping with the same or even more restrictive terms.
