I rode from Rio de Janeiro to Buenos Aires on Pluma bus (a Brazilian company). One
passenger told me that Flecha (when it´s not on strike) is the better company.
That was my experience exactly.
I was only on Pluma once or twice and found it a bit of an ordeal. I gather the driver
got a commission on what passengers spent at road side restaurants. When we
arrived at one at 3 am, he turned the lights in the bus on bright, I suppose so
we´d find it hard to sleep instead of spend.
Then the Pluma bus broke down and we sat and waited a long time at the side of the highway.
Even when another Pluma bus passed, they wouldn´t take any of us on. A fellow
passenger took our names to file a consumer complaint to try to get a partial refund. We
never received a centavo from "Saca Pluma".
In contrast, all my trips on Flecha have been luxurious. (So much better than airline service !).
Some buses have upper decks. When we get on, we´re often handed a light meal. At night,
the lights are dime. The seats are a treat ! The service is just wonderful, all round !
