Why is a "medio" tostado a complete sandwich, dammit? Let's get to the bottom of this. Inquiring minds want to know.

Don't get me started on tostada vs tostado and why an order of "toast that comes with absolutely nothing to put on it" suddenly becomes a "ham/cheese panini". Do Argentines really dig bread with nothing? The looks I get when I ask the waiter for at least some butter.

Yes, maddening! And why is a chorizo a pork sausage and also a steak???

Possibly for similar reasons why in England a teacake can be a biscuit topped with marshmallow and chocolate, a toasted and usually buttered currant bun and in certain parts of Lancashire and Yorkshire, a big, round bap often served as a filled sandwich. Those crazy English, eh?

Elementary, a tostado has 4 triangles 1/2 tostado has only 2. Obvious

In my area tostadas always come with a cheese spread plus jam/preserve.

In some places you are also able to order half a piece of cake, and basically half serving of most main courses. And fries you can also get half a serving in many places. I have never seen tostadas served plain in the city unless the client specifically requests it ( chances are that a waiter forgot to get the butter, cream cheese, jam ). One of the largest and thickest ham and cheese miga tostado is served on the corner of Paraguay and Azcuenaga ( Otamendi corner ). This one is really enough for 2-3 people and a full meal on itself. It can get you going all day long ;D
