friends of mine are moving their family from the UK to a city called Hangzhou in China. Does anyone know of a good expat community site like BA expats there?

Try going to www.eslcafe.com ("Dave's ESL Cafe"). Even if your friends are not English teachers, there are forums similar to this one, where you can discuss work-related topics as well as "off topics" exclusively in China ...

For British Expats there's a site called - you've guessed it - britishexpats.com There are country and regional forums for wherever the British Expat may have relocated and general and social forums and one specifically for the issues arising from going back home. Steve has come up with some excellent suggestions for Hangzhou but this site may still be worth knowing about.
