While everyone is drinking at Magdalena's Party, try sneaking across the street for some sufficiently authentic and really home made Israeli-Jewish food at Hola Jacoba. Recently brunched there with some friends and we were all pleasantly surprised (although this might have been influenced by our very low credibility before we arrived). This is not like a deli, the emphasis is on platters not sandwiches. But it works particularly well if you go with others and treat it like an Israeli/Jewish picada with everyone sharing. The service was great too.
An interesting point of trivia--the owners grandma still stops in for surprise visits to make sure the quality is maintained. They used her recipes. Enjoy!
