I was told at the dirección de tránsito that if a vehicle is for "uso particular casa rodante", and if it's actual, final weight does not exceed 3500 kilograms, then it is legally driveable with a B license, even if its "peso bruto" (maximum loaded weight) was 5000kg-6000kg. I've since met a guy and his family who had a van body of the same model of truck; he was driving his casa rodante far and wide with a B license, so I know that it is possible and legal.
However, how, where and when is this reclassification to casa rodante, done? e.g.

- When the vehicle is being transferred to my name?
- After the purchase, by the dirección de tránsito alone?
- After the purchase, by engineers themselves, or by asking engineers to certify that the vehicle is in fact a casa rodante (even if minimally constructed)? then take that certification to the dirección de tránsito for recategorisation?
