I found a little bird near Parque Patricios.
I think it might be a Turtle Dove. Not a pigeon.
I borrowed a birdcage from a neighbor.
He is eating some of the milk & breadcrumbs mix I gave him.
He would have been run over left in the cobble stone streets.
I've named him Bird Reynolds.

Must be something to do with the weather?

This week I saw one juvinile sparrow on the pavement and thought I heard the mother calling so let it be.

Day before I walked past one dove in a shop doorway which people had left food for - not in Parque Patricos

Advice on what to do? .... http://www.rspca.org...dingInjuredBird

It could have been kicked out of the nest for being the weakling of the bunch. Birds sometimes do this to ensure the strength of the brood.

Yes,... I think this was the case. I waited a while before trying to pick it up. I saw a turtle dove approach it, thinking it was the mother going to feed it.
But then noticed it it was trying to peck at it. Like trying to kill it. Very weird. I had to shoo the big bird away to try to save the little bird.
Hopefully it will recover so I can turn it loose. Seems to like the milk & bread mix.

You are doing it no favor by feeding it since it will die sooner or later anyway without the care of its mother. Though it sounds cruel, you might consider putting it down by placing it in a bag and stepping on it. Trying to keep it alive will only prolong its suffering. It's nature's way.

it will die sooner or later anyway...

Well that applies to you & me both. Does that mean that we should look for the nearest highest balcony & take the plunge ... ???

Plenty of birds that are found like this go on to get released so stepping on it isn't the solution.
I think they need to eat worms and things though so the only thing I'd be really worried about is his diet.
If you don't mind forking out a couple of hundred pesos, I think the best thing you can do is take it to a vet.
I was recommended MovilVet from someone on this forum...He comes to your house and is fully bilingual. My cats really liked him and he was very gentle and professional.
His name completely escapes me but his telephone number is 15-5887-9861 and more info is here https://www.facebook.com/movilvet.

This bird seems like a baby zorzal

It's quite common that they leave the nest before knowing how to fly (parents come to feed even on the ground).

Looks like he'll be able to fly in two weeks or so?

I'm not that sure that cow milk is very good (hard to digest).
Seems it would be good to make a mix of cereals, a bit of raw meat (cut thin) and water. ( http://es.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080104152844AAXFzdb
