Thank you Donald Trump?
There are a lot of things one can hold against Donald Trump, but I’m not sure this should rightly be one of them.

Is it your opinion that US concerns about Huawei, and/or Chinese espionage in general, are overblown?
USG was worried about Huawei specifically well before Trump showed up.
And their shenanigans with T-Mobile are part of the public record.

Normally one can separate companies and governments. In China’s case you absolutely cannot. What are your suggestions?

Just as Huawei released a smartphone on parity with the best in the industry, probably for the first time.

The way OEMs updated Android and how fragmented the platform is, I don't think a lack of updates matters much. I recently sold my Galaxy S6, whcih was not updated for a couple of years. Of course, really is no point buying a new Huawei phone unless you are willing to crack it, which most consumers won't be.

Huawei is a Chinese government controlled company, all their phones have backdoors. The ones sold in China have no google or anything. The government can even listen (possible) to you when you shutoff the phone. Even Huawei press release dept uses Iphone and a sim card from outside China to send news, otherwise their news will be locked inside China and their employees in Japan o Argentina can not see. Huawei can sell their products at a loss to take the market share. Financially, they receive huge $ aid from their government, outside China, they steal US intellectual properties like crazy. They set up an office in Silicon Valley just for the purpose of that (like Japanese did in 80 and 90s). I was working for a company next to them, and they kept calling. That was more than 10 years ago. They have a large market share in Europe and Latin America. Most people just buy their low end phones. Only people inside China buy their hi end phones. Compared to Iphones, their phone is very sh*ty in English world, does not support many popular apps. With the sanction from Trump, it will be very hard for them. It's such an evil company, I would happy to see them die. They are the one who helps Chinese government to monitor and control Chinese people.

Sell it. Right now. No more Google updates for Huawei devices.
If you are thinking about buying one...DON'T. Google will not longer be able to provide any of it services (Youtube, Gmail, Maps, Translate, etc...) to new Huawei devices.
All of this to comply with a new US order.
Thank you Donald Trump.

Google has stopped providing software and hardware services to Chinese smartphone maker Huawei, to comply with a US government order.
Good, no one will buy their phones :)

Reuters published an article today comparing the treatment of Huawei's CFO in Canada to that of two Canadian prisoners held in China. The former resides in a luxury mansion and is poised to move into a larger mansion. She is charged with a crime for which there is ample corroborating evidence. The Canadians jailed in China are in solitary confinement, with 24 illuminated lights and other extreme discomforts. They have not been formally charged.

Changing the world economic order is painful. But it needs to be changed. Current Chinese conduct cannot be allowed to continue.

The woman has already moved to her 16m mansion in the west of Vancouver. All her 3 children are in US or Canada. Chinese government is probably paying her bills, she has 7 passports, 2 are from Hong Kong, which violates HK law. She uses different passports for different destinations. She is aware of the US gov after her a few years back. At the same time, 2 Canadian former diplomats are held in jail n China. China is trying to flex its muscle on Canada. Also they changed a Canadian citizen court ruling from kicking out of China to death sentence. The court already ruled to kick the possible drug dealer out of China, then Chinese government change it to death sentence. China is really becoming a rogue country under Xi. Both parties in US agree to be tough in China, not just Trump. It's time for Europe to side with US, it's to the best of their interest. All the Asians countries do not want see a China like this as their neighbors. Trump might not know, he has a HUGE amount fans in China. Many average Chinese are happy to see someone from no where become the president, and be tough on their dictator government.
I was just in China last week. The government control over average people is amazing. As a foreigner, you must scan your finger prints in and out of China, every hotel has the passport and visa scanner, that once they scan it (not make a copy of your passport), the police knows exactly where you are. If you disappeared in China in a few days, they will find you, from the address you gave on your entry card, police will go to the address and ask you to register with the gov with 24 hours of your arrival. All webs and app are heavily censored, they have millions internet police watching. Cameras are every where. It's really fkin eveil government. No one should buy their phones to make their stronger. They are just dumping their extra production capacity to the world, they can sell anything at a loss as long as their plants are moving.

She was released on bail and can live wherever she wants.

So, even if a company from a foreign sovereign nation does not follow US-imposed sanctions. Is this really a crime? In what jurisdiction?

Google removed "Don't be evil" clause from its code of conduct and practically plays the same game as Microsoft in the PC Market. Huawei will just sponsor some custom ROM that is not USA based, and find some replacement for Google Play.
