I just got back to Argentina today after a month in the States and wanted to throw up a few observations.

1. Everything is more expensive. This is so unsurprising as to not merit mention in the title.

2. For the first time since I've been here my local coto didn't have any San Pellegrino. More shockingly they didn't have any Villavivencia either! The only thing they had was 4-5 bottles of Sierra de los Padres "Soda" which has almost no carbonation and huge bubbles.

3. There was a thread recently about how much plastic wrap sucks in this country, a feeling I also shared until I saw this new addition to my coto's shelves. Industria Argentina but made for export. Cutting edge, internal rolling mechanism, external stay (two holes for tucking in wrap), AND it's the cheapest per meter wrap on the shelf.

Yes!!!!

One of the many joys of living in Argentina is that you really start to appreciate the little things! :)

Scoring a roll of good affordable plastic wrap? It can make your day! :D

If it's just the plastic wrap that I am missing, I guess I'm not missing much.. ;)

Isn't that sad that the "high point" is something that in a civilized / advanced country you would not even have to think about...how Argentina has pulled the wool over so many's eyes!

This place is a pathetic dump!

I mean no offense to the OP, but if plastic wrap -- of all things -- were the "high point" of one's trip to a so-called "civilized/advanced" country, then I think a priorities assessment would be in order.

Are you sure Colombia is a good idea? It ain't much better than Argentina if plastic wrap is a life necessity...

im sure that columbia has a cozy enough relationship . what with thier "like of imperialist world dominating north americans" , that they have none of the problems of customs restrctions like here .
And yes , if being able to get plastic wrap is a high point , well , then it doesnt speak well of the priorities of this country.
Im sure that the plastic wrap is considered by these stupid neo socialists to be another luxury of capitalistic domination.

there are soooooo many plastic bags used from the supermarkets! Ever try cutting the tops and bottoms off and spliting them? Geez guys, it works just fine and you don't have to complain that you cannot buy Saran Wrap with the cutting edge in this THIRD WORLD PATHETIC COUNTRY. Obviously you haver never lived in a truly third world country! Me thinkith that there are many more important things to worry about on any day, both here and where ever from which you come.

There in lies the problem. Argentina/Buenos Aires used to be 1st world..now it's 3rd. In many ways it still has buildings that look 1st world. Has portenos that talk like it is not just 1st world but the best 1st world ever..
I think that most of the ex-pats complaints are related to this false impression of the realities of the city they live in.
Most, if not all the expats would not even joke about not having peanut butter..much less so about the crappy pizza.....

Well, no, it's not even close to the same thing, and as of now I don't have to have to complain because I found it here.
