I love this event every year. La Rural! (said with a thick Texas accent)

Starts tomorrow, THURSDAY July 17th @ 9am and goes through SUNDAY July 27th (8pm).

Every day is 9am-8pm and is "fun for the whole family".

I recommended also,... lots of fun.
See all sorts of livestock up close & meet real gauchos.
Beautiful horses too.

This you cannot do (legally) in the States (or probably Great Britain for that matter).

you certainly can. It's a show

There are passengers in the pickup who are NOT wearing helmets and simply signed a waiver they did not read.

I beg to differ with your opinion.

Lots of stuff to do. Travel info for interior provinces . Handcrafts and products from all over Argentina. Stuff for horses. A couple great knife makers. cars and trucks . and my favorite , farm equipment , including tractors and combines !!

I go several times every year.

Go early , have fun.

If it hadnt the huge political background, I would surely go. Sounds like a lot of fun.

Just wonder what in Argentina does NOT have a "huge political backgroung".

Did you see the first 5 minute of the halftime presentation for EVERY WORLD CUP MATCH?

There are lots of things without a political meaning!!

La Rural, original name "(La) Sociedad Rural Argentina" participated in every coup this country had in the last century, and was a very important political actor of the last dictatorship. They are the land owners that want no industry, no development, just a banana republic. This is not only me talking here on this board, everyone knows they want that, thats their model of a country. Not internal market so they can export more, sell in dollars instead of having to sell in pesos for the internal market. They were against sindicates, against industry, against everything that give some power to the urban middle classes.
As a political actor La Rural is identified with the extreme right. It changed, though, since the seventies or eighties, when financial capitalism occupied their place of being the wealthier in this country, it clearly has another face now, much more friendly, not so involved in politics (apart from the Kirchner-Campo affaire in 2007), not so sumptuous and ostenatious, not so high class. Just more common, low profile. But still, the history is there...
I would go.

If anyone is thinking about overlooking the politics involved and heading over to La Rural, you'd better bundle up. This isn't Día del Amigo weather we're dealing with over the next 4 days.
