Hi all,

So I have my flights booked and will have an extended stay in BA for 6 months. I'd love to get some insight from people with feet on the ground that can comment on a solid budget per month.

I plan to rent a single bedroom apartment, I prefer to live alone. I plan to cook most of my own food, and splurge a bit a few times a week and eat out.

I will be working 8 hours a day from my apartment, so will need good internet speed.

So my questions are:

1. How much to budget for living expenses per month? I plan to rent in Palermo.
2. How can I ensure that my internet speed is sufficent?
3. Besides airBnb which seem to have inflated prices, where can I get an apartment? (I am a citizen with family in the area in case I need someone to vouch for me)
4. Should I bother bringing cash USD? Seems that the current exchange = the black market - could be wrong.
5. Any gyms you'd recommend in Palermo?
6. Are there any basketball courts in Palermo where I can play pick-up basketball with locals?
7. Anything else I should be aware of..?

Thanks for reading! Look forward to obtaining some solid insight.

visit zonaprop.com.ar and look at the temporal listings plus bytargentina.com in your apartment search

for internet, when you look at an apt use speedtest.net app or your computer to test out the wifi. since it is always brutal flying down, get a hotel for a week or so while you look for apartments, and the hotel will have good wifi as long as you stick with a reputable place.

if you rent an apartment through a airbnb alternative, bring USD as they want that for rent. you can always change it to pesos. the blackmarket pesos isn't much of a thing anymore, banks give you essentially the same rate. Banco Piano is a good place to change money. check http://www.ambito.com/economia/mercados/monedas/dolar/ . these are the exchange rates

depends what sort of gym you are looking for. a lot of places in BA specialize, like Martial arts places, crossfit places, etc. theres even climbing gyms now.

basketball courts here, though no guarantee that people are gonna be there for pickup games. switch to futból if you want guaranteed pickup games: https://goo.gl/maps/aSRqYTcFQtw

the big, newer gyms can be very expensive and the older, smaller gyms are more neighborhood. see where you live and then just google them. good running area in Palermo at the Parks across from USA embassy. Airbnb monthly rates aren't too bad in comparison to the other add on charges when you sign a contract. Enjoy!
I would bring some USA dollars and then find a bank to convert. That is what I did and it worked out fine...

my understanding is that Singapore isn't a place that you move to unless you're being lured by a fat paycheck there. it's very expensive, probably most expensive place in the world, and laws there are excessively strict. find people online if you want to talk to those that have the inside scoop, Argentina is almost the complete opposite side of the planet geographically
