looking for a molecular gastro restuarant

Arent steaks and fries molecular?

I think you need to come down and see what Argentina is really like, before you make assumptions about food made from vapor and molecules.

This place is a lot more Momofuko than El Bulli.

As in big chunks of meat, carbs, and gooey sauces.

My favorite M.G. restaurant in BA is "La Viñeria de Gualterio Bolivar" in San Telmo. We were there last week with friends. They only offer a 16-course tasting menu. Their location on calle Bolivar is not obvious (no signs outside), the ambiance is minimalist, and you have to make a reservation. It's also pricey ($230 pp/ndi), but the food and experience is really good and different from other restaurants here. One of the chefs also worked at El Bulli, and the restaurant was recognized in 2009 by Food and Wine magazine on an international review.

You can also get some M.G. courses with the tasting menu at El Bistro at the Faena hotel in Puerto Madero.

Ah... an hour ago we got back from Sirop in Recoleta. It's not M.G., but fine modern Porteña cuisine. Never heard of the place before, but our neighbors kindly invited us and WOW!, what a great surprise this place was. The food was amazing. Loved the pear, chicken and walnut salad, and the pear+cheese ravoilis with mascarpone sauce and arugula. Definitely one of the best restaurants we've been to in BA recently. They have to locales in the same alley; Restaurant and Folie.

Good luck! ;)

LOL.. Momofuku

Vineria is as much about the entertainment as about the food. Your waiter tells you how to eat each course. It might be a spoon full of scallop powder followed bt a sip of sea water broth.

It was all the rage two years ago when we had to beg to get in for a meal during the 2 weeks we were in town. But a few months ago we were the only party in the house.

It's worth the experience and the wine pairing is good.

Pork Butt at Momofuko, for those who dont know what I am talking about- and yes, thats ONE portion.
Almost Argentine in its dimensions...

Aside from Vineria, are there ANY other "molecular" restaurants in Argentina?

A good place in Mendoza is Molokai, which is downtown on Belgrano, a couple of blocks from the Park Hyatt.
