I need to go to Montevideo for a business trip, one week long. I am looking for a short term apartment for two people (a couple) under 70USD per day. Last time I found a good hotel for this price, but food is so expensive I need somewhere that has a kitchen.
Also open to recommendations for hostels/hotels with kitchens.
Any recommendations?

http://www.bremenmontevideo.com/english2.htm might fit your needs, though I haven't stayed there for quite a while.

check these ads for studios in Pocitos or Downtown for US$50 per day on the waterfront playa de Pocitos views!

Thanks for the recs, so far much nicer than any of the stuff I saw on AirBnB. Keep em coming!

I was there a month ago for a film festival. The city is very relaxing, no traffic, but also not as much stuff to do. The ciudad vieja (which looks just like San Telmo) is wonderfuly maintained. A good choice is you want to relax.
However, it is insanely expensive by Argentine standards (except for hotel rooms) and food costs were incredibly high. We went to a parilla in the port, sat in what was the cheapest place, had two meat dishes with sides, morcilla, beer and it came to 800 Argentine pesos. With dollars you get a better rate, but still expensive.

The restos in and around the Mercado del Puerto are tourist traps..$$

For a reasonable Resto/Pizzeria check La Paponita on the 18 de Julio at Plaza Bomberos (still not cheap ¡compared to blue rate prices in Argentina) ! Considering the Uruguay peso rate today? 2 ?
