Interesting article about corruption in Italy in the 90's. Based on the actions of Judge Di Pietro that started the Mani Pulite process to persecute corrupt politicians in Italy.

" Di Pietro, at that particular time, managed to dismantle that system. In two or three years, along with a pool of judges, to take to trial the system especially involving the government parties: the Christian Democrats, socialism, Republicans; ie, the center parties that ruled Italy for half a century.

There were hundreds of politicians who were investigated hundreds who went to prison or, at least, had to resign, leave their positions both in government and in the party. It is said that Mani Pulite "killed" the First Republic. There were parties that disappeared: the Christian Democrats, which was the main party that ruled Italy in the post-war since the end of World War II until 1993 was always in the government, in Mani Pulite had to be dissolved because all his references were incriminated . The Socialist Party also had to be closed; its main reference, Bettino Craxi, was a fugitive in Tunisia where he died in 2000 - not to go to jail; also disappeared the Liberal Party, the Social Democratic Party (PSDI) and the Republican Party. El Mani Pulite, ¿una lección para la Argentina?

But in the end it didn't change a thing. It is not a problem of persons, it is the system, it is how the society is built. You can't simply throw shame on some politics, have them resign/run/removed and think it will be like starting again with a clean slate.

People like Menem and the Kirchners are both a symptom and a cause.

May be, but for ME it was enough that ended Partito della Democrazia Cristina , and the Partito Socialista...!! Craxi and a few other corrupt Political Parties

Is this the lesson Argentina should learn from Italy?

Brazilian Officials have asked the Pope to be impartial on the WC games and NOt to pray for the Seleccion Argentina :D

Berlusconi came after Mani Pulite. And anyway he never went to jail. He is currently on social service at a hospice (considered he's 80-something, that looks more like a vacation), but that's because of the Ruby scandal and not for the financial crimes, bribes and stuff he made.

Did you know that right here in Argentina there is a strip-tease club called Bordello Berlusconi? It is in Rosario.
