Hi All,

I am a brand new expat to BA! I just moved here with my husband a week or two ago. My husband is from here (moved to US when he was 12) and speaks Spanish fluently. I, on the other hand, am quickly beginning to miss the food diversity available to be back home (NJ). I love steak and wine just as much as the next, but I've been craving something different and cannot seem to find anything where I am.

Looking for great mediterranean food, whether it be Greek food like gyros or Lebanese shawarma - I love it all! Any recommendations? I'm current in Beccar in San Isidro, but just signed to lease a place in Pilar so recommendations in either area would be ideal. I realize I'm missing out on a bit not living in the city but I'll take what I can get.

Thanks all :)

If you can't be with the food you love, love the food you're with
What's the name and address of your favorite Lebanese restaurant in New Joy-Z?.

scalabrini ortiz.
its the heart of the armenian neigborhood.
several good delis and stores.
fridays, Medio Oriente makes gyros.
search here on the site, there are threads about it.
also a good but humble israeli restaurant on Diaz Velez, Teamim.

In general, if you look at Pick Up The Fork, she talks about the best places.
Some may not agree, but my experience in going to restaurants is that I genearlly agree with her recomendations.

Unortunately here up north (I am in San Isidro as well), there is not much variety. The most exotic place I would recommend here is Club Hungaría (https://www.tripadvisor.com.ar/Restaurant_Review-g312741-d1229152-Reviews-Club_Hungaria-Buenos_Aires_Capital_Federal_District.html).
There are some Arabic places, one on Libertador in La Lucila and another one in Martinez (I don't remember exactly where).

However, if you happen to go downtown, go to La cocina de Amira (https://www.tripadvisor.com.ar/Restaurant_Review-g312740-d8692922-Reviews-La_Cocina_De_Amira-Capital_Federal_District.html) near Tribunales. It is a very bare place with no tables (you can eat "a la barra" or take away) but the food is delicious and the shawarma so yummy! Open Mon-Fri at lunch only

Lets not forget that Italy, France, Spain are Mediterranean as well as Lebanon and Turkey ..!!
For Lebanese visit the Club Sirio-Libanes Buffet $$ . Kepes, humus, Babaganoush, Dolmeh.

What about the best Pesto Genovese Lasagna Bolognese, Risotto Milanese and Pizza Napoletana?? "Siamo nel Forno" obvious in Palermo.
La Parolacia in Recoleta.
Please add your suggestions.

Dan Perlman at Saltshaker.net did a review on most of the shawarma places in Buenos Aires. Just use the search bar on his site.

Tabboule in Ridgewood, NJ. If you're ever in the area - get the mixed shwarma and you will fall in love.

Love this! Thanks so much for all the great recommendations. DEFINITELY going to check it out - I'm a little bit over steak every other day lol so this is great.

new hipster shwarma / hamburguesa place in Villa Crespo, that I liked a lot- KonKon.
They make the shwarma meat with carbon (real coals) as opposed to an electric heating element or a gas burner.
have great homemade hummous, sauces, including picante ones, sandwiches and burgers made to order, really good non-fries = roasted potatoes.

I guess there is one in Palermo, too- dunno, dont go there much.

I have only been to the one in Villa Crespo.
Its muy barrio, no tourists.
