Hi

I have overstayed my visa once before and I was just charged a fee and that was that no problems coming back no marks in my passport etc.

This was 3 or so years ago and I just wanted to know if it is the same now and how much would it be? Does it make a difference that I overstayed once before?

I was going to get a ferry to colonia for the day but it is almost $2000 for 2 people and I just dont have the time.

thanks

I had the same issue... overstayed for the second time (in 3 years) last year, got my second overstay stamp in December and came back in January with no problems. But I did tell them (when they asked how long I was staying) that I was going to start my residency process. But that I hadn't done any paperwork yet. That sufficed.

ok thats good news how much did the fine cost you?

Why not just go to migraciones in Retiro and renew your visa for another 90 days? It's a simple process.

Go within 10 days before your visa expires. Bldg 4. Section prorroga. Office opens at 8am, but it's best to be there by 7am. pay 300 pesos. Expect to be there several hours.

Just pay it on the way out it's much easier/ faster and I hate that Retiro building! I actually did it in Aeroparque the day before I left because I live close to there and could go by car. The fee is still 300 pesos!!

You're assuming that he's here on vacation and won't be staying long. If that is the case, he can pay online before leaving the country.

If you hate that Retiro building, prepare yourself for going to the court building at Libertad and Viamonte regularly for a year or two in your citizenship case. Waiting for the elevators is the fun part.

So I went to Retiro and of coarse the computer system broke several times before I got to the front of the queue making my stay much longer and annoying.

So I got there and the guy takes one look at my passport and sends me to the supervisor because I have alot of Argentina entry stamps.

She tells me that I need residence here to be in so much but she didnt realize that I only spend 4 months of the year here. In the end she was quite nice and told me that it would be much better for me to pay at the airport when leaving as if they extend it I could end up getting flagged on their system as I would be getting permission to over stay the maximum of 180 in one year.

So in the end i spent 4 hours there for nothing but no I know!!!

On the plus side as of March 1st the price of extension is going up from 300 to 600........ I leave on the 4th...

I believe that the last time the extension fee increased from $100(?) to $300 pesos the overstay fine increased from $50 to its present level of $300 pesos. I think that was also when the resident visa fees increased from $200 to $600 pesos. I would expect the overstay fee to increase (at least double) in the near future...if it doesn't also go up on the 1st of March.

If (on the 1st of March) there is also an increase of the current $600 peso fee for the resident visas it should be visible on the migraciones website next week. It is also possible (more than likely) that there will be an concomitant increase in the income requirement for the visa rentista and visa pensionado.
