I just wanted to let everyone know that I stumbled across a new (they opened 2 weeks ago, according to the guy I spoke to) Mongolian BBQ place in Recoleta. It's called Gengi's House and is at Riobamba 1179, between Santa Fe and Arenales. I never in my life thought I'd see one of these in Buenos Aires, so I thought it noteworthy enough to share.

I haven't eaten there, and I just happened upon it while walking down the street between lunch and dinner so there wasn't any food out. They have 4 or 5 options, including one veggie one with tofu and it's 39 pesos for one serving or 40 pesos for one serving + a lemonade or fruit punch with free refill. They have rice/ noodles (that they make there) available separately but I forgot to ask how much they cost.

I asked the guy if they had Shao Bing (the sesame pocket bread) and he said no, and that he didn't know what it was! The guy I spoke to wasn't as familiar with the style but his business partner, the cook, worked as a cook in a Mongolian BBQ in Hollywood for several years - he wasn't there when I stopped in. I asked if I could try to make some Shao Bing and bring it in when I go to eat there and he said that would be fine, so when I can afford to eat out again and feel ambitious enough to attempt first time Shao Bing making I'll update.

They seem enthusiastic and as eager to make it as 'authentic' as possible, and if my breadmaking is a success they might try to add it to their offerings, we'll see. One difference I noticed is that instead of 'making your own' sauce they have maybe 5 or 6 premixed options to choose from.

They are open for coffee etc all day and also have the typical things like medialunas/ tostados etc, but the Mongolian BBQ part is open from 11:30 - 4 and then 7:30 to 11. They're open Monday to Saturday. The decor/ lighting is nothing special (actually, their large painting of Genghis Khan is rather special!) but it might be a place for some longterm expats to satisfy a craving.

I just wanted to put the info out there, if anyone tries it I'd love to know how it is! I'll update if and when I go there myself.
