New immigrants Policy?

If it is a new policy, then I am surprised. Deporting illegals who commit crimes seen common sense. Hell, deporting immigrants who commit crimes is common sense. Generally a deportation is far cheaper than holding someone is jail.
 
Normally they are deported AFTER serving their sentence. I've never heard of deportation as an alternative to serving a sentence.
In most countries: Arrest -> Conviction -> Serve sentence -> Deportation
