Today major celebration for Catholics and the Orthodox Church of Russia. Putin asked for Truce for Holidays ..

What is celebrated: On biblical times 3 Zoroastrian priests/Magi came from the East guided by a star to adore, with gifts of incense and Mirth, the Newborn Jesus.

The Magi weren't Magicians, Magos.
Zoroastrianism was then the most important religion from the East (Persia).
 
Today is Christmas for the Orthodox, because they still use the old Julian calendar for religious purposes.
