The usual Google Translate deal, banner is in Castellano and story will initially appear in that tongue, but wait a few seconds and it will change to English.

In a moment of sincerity that would have made more than one member of the government blush with anger, the United States ambassador to Argentina, Marc Stanley, praised the figure of Cristina Kirchner over that of Javier Milei . The outgoing official described the former president as a woman who “will go down in history” as “one of the most influential” in the region, and only said of the current President that he is a person “who wants to align himself” with Washington.

“It is very controversial of me to say it” but Cristina Kirchner “still dominates the news” and “I enjoyed” the meetings with her, acknowledged the diplomat who in a few days will be replaced by Peter Lamelas, the man appointed by Donald Trump to polish relations between the White and Pink Houses.
Contrary to what might be expected from the ambassador of a country with which Javier Milei's government has an undeniable commitment, Stanley was full of praise for the former Peronist president and was less generous with the liberal-libertarian .

He praised CFK's capacity for "civilized" dialogue and even publicly thanked her for having met with him three times. "She will go down in history as one of the most influential women in the history of Latin America, whether people like it or not, that is the truth ," he said during an interview with Infobae.

Laughing so very hard over here

Dude's a class action lawyer. Much lower than the scum of the earth. Clearly got the job because of his political contributions to the worst president in the last 50 years.

Approximately 1/3 of all US ambassadors are political appointees, and you're right. They're amateurs, appointed as a political plum. IIRC, the previous ambassador had a chain of cheap furniture stores, and before Argentina was without an ambassador for about 8 years, because ... who knows? Somebody CBA. Obviously the State Department doesn't regard Argentina as an important country.

And that's why the the DCM, the Deputy Chief of Mission, is such an important post, because those people are always professionals.

I actually met him and talked to him. He was a nice guy, and actually tried to learn about Argentina and do a good job. My guess is that he had personal interactions with Cristina that were amiable. As mentioned, there are other people negotiating tax disclosures and money laundering protocols and things like that. Big decisions come from Washington.
Frankly, I think whoever gets appointed next will be much less professional and more amusing.

The next Ambassador will be Dr Peter Lamelas, a Cuban born immigrant to the US who has served on the Florida State Medical Board and as an elected City Commissioner in Manalapan, FL.
At least he speaks Spanish, hates socialists, and has met Milei...

obviously we can differ about whether "hating socialists" is a credential.
vamos a ver.
He seems to have gotten very wealthy by running health insurance companies, which means government payments for medicaid and medicare, and then donating to Trump.
Given that most of the Ambassadors job is handshakes and showing up at events, he probably will do just fine.

Urgent Care centers, not insurance companies.

Let's try this the other way

"At least he speaks Castellano, hates conservatives, and has met Cristina"

How does that make you feel?

Honestly? It doesn't make me feel anything. That person might make a fine Ambassador, too. As a Libertarian I disdain conservatives as much as socialists.

I can respect that, but I find Libertarians and Conservatives to be indistinguishable in their practical manifestation. I acknowledge and understand the differences in doctrine and theory, but when it comes to the practical effects of their policies, both favor the rich and screw the poor ruthlessly.

Still, I do very much appreciate the calm and civil nature of your response. Thank you.
