I bought my airline ticket for this visit for a week longer than 90 days. When I made that choice, I understood that a 1-day visit to Colonia would solve the problem. Is this still a valid solution or is there something else I should do to stay out of trouble? Thanks.

Assuming this is a one-off, there should be no problem.
If you've been spending substantial periods of time here on nearly consecutive visits, an immigration officer definitely has discretion to conclude that you are not a bona fide tourist, and so deny you entry. It has happened.

Thanks, Ben. I see you are a travel expert. I come to BA about twice a year; this is the first time in a few years for 3 months. So do nothing special?
