Hi all,
I'm a student looking to refill some of my prescriptions (all of which are technically bajo receta) without having to go through the process of seeing a doctor here and getting reimbursed through my student health insurance (it's a pain and takes a while.) I arrived here with a note from my doctor describing which medications I take and for what. Can someone recommend a pharmacy in centro or almagro that would provide me with refills with just a doctors note? PM's are welcome as well.

If you don't need a prescription in Argentina, any pharmacy will do.

You can simply walk in in any pharmacy and ask if they would give them without any prescription. I don't know if there is an online list of farmacos bajo receta

I know of one, Arenales between Suipacha and Peligini/9 de Julio. Small place. Another place on Cordoba between Florida and San Martin, across Cordoba from Galeria Paficia, slightly bigger place.

Of course, probably depends on what kind of prescriptions we're talking about. Antibiotics and Viagra and such is one thing - highly controlled pain relievers such as Oxycodon quite another.

Pharmacies that are not parts of big chains will sometimes fill prescription medicines without prescriptions.

It depends quite a bit on the pharmacy and what medicine it is. As el queso said, almost every pharmacy will give you antibiotics over the counter even though they're technically prescription only. Pharmacies which will sell you medicines which would otherwise need red or green prescriptions are less common but exist.

Why not just go see a doctor and have him re write your prescriptions? Seems a lot easier than wandering around the city trying to illegally acquire prescription meds and probably won't cost more than a few hundred pesos for the consultation.

How strong or effective is that "Antibiotics" procured there in Argentina pharmacy ? Are they all generic brands?
The reason for me asking these, had in the past gone to latAm farmacia to get some penicylin but was not effective
at all, I came down with sinus infection but these sold over the counter medicine very dubious in its effectiveness !

Penicillin? Really?

Yeah, that is what the doc said will only require to cure the infection. And it came in the form of pills. Kept taking
but it took many days till starting to see the effectiveness. So how good are the medicine prescription there ?

Just finished treating myself for a nasty sinus infection with over the counter antibiotics-amoxicilina. You can buy all brands, depending on how much you want to pay. I buy the Roemmers brand, but there's a huge range available.
