Hi all,

Does anyone know of any great lodging - cabins, apartment rentals, etc.- in Bariloche, El Bolson or anywhere else with snow? I'm dying to see snow this year and want to plan a week long getaway. I tend to get good suggestions on this forum so figured I'd throw it out there.

Thanks!
Meri

I realize this doesn't answer your question as this hotel is closed in the winter, but I highly recommend Hotel Tronador in the national park outside of Bariloche: http://www.hoteltronador.com/. Great horseback riding with incredible views.

I have a few friends who rent nice cabins behind their house or on the mountain. PM me for more info. i.e # of people , if you have a car........

Don't book anything just yet! The snow is terrible, or I should say there is very little snow. It's probably one of the worst years in Bariloche for a while. Hasn't been possible to ski to the base yet this year. I assume the other resorts in the area are the same...?

Villa La Angostura: http://www.cerrobayoweb.com/
El Bolson: http://www.cerro-peritomoreno.com/
Esquel: http://www.cerrolahoya.com/

There is finally some more snow forecast: http://www.snow-fore...tedral/6day/top Only the top part of Cerro Catedral is currently open, but its rock hard. There was about 20- 30cm that felt last week but that has all melted. It was snowing this morning on the higher mountain....

Are you aware of the cable car that derailed this earlier this month: http://www.anbariloc....php?nota=43333
This derailment happened last year (http://anbariloche.c....php?nota=36664) and is still being investigated: http://www.anbariloc....php?nota=43645
Video of the incident last year. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10152540838159158

My advice - don't go to the mountain on windy days!

There is a link in my signature below to some apartment rentals in downtown Bariloche.

I didn't like Hosteria Las Marianas in Bariloche. Nice owners but overpriced for what it is. I went after reading some good reviews on line... just in case you had seen and it were considering.

Thank you! I probably won't ski anyway - just want to be around the snow....Scary about the cable car!!

Don't forget San Martin de Los Andes! If the snow is bad, you want to be in a nicer place than Bariloche to wait it out :)

Our private apartment in the center was full all July, but still has some openings in August and more in September. Note that indeed the snow had been lacking this year, even though I skied several times. It is too busy now, wait at least one week more so that all BsAs skiers are back home (will be more affordable as well.).

Check the Chapelco site for info, weather forecasts and live webcams.
Often near the end of August comes the Santa Rosa weather/storm, which normally brings a load of fresh snow, so early September could be great (and cheap and not busy).

Enjoy!
