It's all kicking off in Cordoba, police on strike. People are looting like no tomorrow. Massa and the congress are sending the Federal Police, apparently Cristina didn't want to send them because Cordoba has a debt to La Nacion.

Videos of people attempting to carry pig carcasses from supermarkets.

Just in the city or all over the province?
The majority was the city, however it kicked off in Alta Gracia and a few other towns had to shut down supermarkets/banks for the day. Now that the Police got their salary increase all seems back to 'normal'.

I was hanging out in my hostel in downtown Cordoba last night. The owner, who was out at the time, called the desk and said be careful about opening the door to people, because there's some looting and rioting going on.
But we were downtown and it was quiet on our block. When I left the hostel this morning it was like Sunday, hardly any traffic.

this whole episode is so embarrassing. i watched it on tv. seeing those poor shop owners crying in their empty destroyed shops was heart breaking. the state and federal governments, not to mention the police, should be ashamed of themselves. i hope the people responsible are held accountable. i doubt it will happen, but i sure hope so.

I just got an email from one of my programmers who is Cordobese but lived here in Capital Federal most of the time I knew him (he and his girlfriend moved back for a year, but didn't like the lack of things like furniture and electronics that you can get more easily here). They moved to London a few months ago to escape the madhouse they felt Argentina was becoming.

His folks own a motorcycle repair/parts shop on the outskirts of the city. Yesterday, about ten blocks from them there were a lot of looters running around and robbing store owners in broad daylight. They stayed closed and managed to miss it, fortunately, but obviously they're a bit freaked out.

If this was caused by a police strike - I wonder if the looters have any connections...

I'm not a conspiracy theorist however I would be very very surprised if large groups of people weren't given blessings courtesy of the Cordoba police to go on a looting spree to enhance the chances of the police getting their raise. The police gain more bargening power 'look what happens when the police go on strike', and the looters get free shit without worrying about prosecution.

The good news is that it does seem like people are being arrested and charged. The police are using Facebook and going after people who posted photos of the looting...
