Given that the University of Buenos Aires is the most prestigious public university in Argentina or Uruguay, is the Universidad de la Republica in Montevideo more prestigious or less prestigious than the National Universities of La Plata and Cordoba, which are the next most prestigious public universities in Argentina?

how do you measure "prestige"?

how much of it is enough?

I think a better question would be, what subject do you want to study, and, then, which universities have good departments in that subject.

"prestige" is about as meaningful as those ads on the tv's in the Buquebus. They tell me that if you are a Buquebus VIP, you have a lot of "prestige".

I know people in Uruguay who had to finish their architecture degrees in Rio Grande or Buenos Aires because their School of Architecture is so damn good it takes about ten years to finish it, between cebar el mate and all...
It works on some cases though http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carlos_Ott

Udelar is good. With ORT -private- almost the only universities in Uruguay. It has been growing a lot. For instance, my uncle, from Uruguay, had to come here to La Plata to study physics. But that was back in the 70s.
La Plata is very good. Cordoba is good too.

IMO the best in Argentina is UBA.
