cel phone not able to receive calls for some reason, texts fine -- it's a jailbroken unlocked iPhone 3GS with a personal prepago sim -- any ideas? their customer service of course doesn't answer and I'm not going to switch to a plan if this is still going to be a problem.

Do not waste your time trying to solve this. Spend $20 in a new Movistar SIM and move on.
Personal sucks and phone companies do nor waste important resources supporting prepago sims, only those with plans.

Plan B, go spend some time at one of their CS offices downtown and may the Force be with you

Has it stopped receiving calls? Or you are just setting it up the very first time?
Could it be that you are out of money? Check the balance and the line status from their website.

never understood.

On prepago..when you receive calls..is it free or charged?

It is free as long as your line is active. You need to spend add some money each month to keep it active. Balance expiration policies are different, but in general adding $30 pesos per month keeps it going. Movistar sets your balance to zero on expiration, Personal freezes it and reactivates with the next payment.

On both prepaid and postpaid plans there is a charge for incoming calls, if call is placed from a public payphone or from a locutorio. In this case number 11111111 "llamada a su cargo" is shown as a caller ID.
