Marti (aka Chet) lost her battle with cancer yesterday. She attended several Coffee Chats over the past 2 years, which is how I came to meet and get to know her. She was a spunky woman with a comforting yet brutally honest way, and I'm so glad I was able to call her a friend. A mutual friend wrote an article about her that you can find here if you are interested in learning more about this extraordinary woman.

I had no idea she was ill.How terribly sad.
When she first arrived in BA in March 2014 she contacted me to help her with a PC which she had dismantled in Romania and packed in her suitcase as components for the flight.
She had pretty much only just arrived which was obvious from the spartan conditions in her flat and she was full of zest as far as I can remember and eager to get back to her programming.
I bought a new PC case across the road, rebuilt the machine and we had Linux up and running in minutes which brightened her up no end.
I seem to recall her saying she was waiting for her partner to arrive as they were both involved in developing a game for Linux or mobile phones.
She tried to explain her work to me, the work that wasn't game related, but I found it hard to get my head around it. I'm a hardware man at heart.
She struck me then as a woman who had lived a life and it was written on her face.
However, I lost touch with her, but she did continue to post here.
Sad news indeed.

Very sad! I really didn't know her well but I do remember her. How did you even find out that she died? Was she back in Romania?

Our mutual friend told us she was sick in December. She was back in the states to see family.

if this isn't out of place, I do remember her saying that she had lost all faith in the US and the life there.

I also remember Marti and had several interesting conversations with her in Coffee Chats about 2 years ago.I am saddened to hear that she is no longer alive and working on her own as she told me she enjoyed so much.
Gringoboy:
I am sorry but I do think that your remark was a little "out of place".Marti did tell me as U.S. citizen as well that she didn't want to return to live there.I was not shocked as one hears that type of comment from expats everywhere about their home countries.
Although ,it might be a little difficult to explain that feeling to the 9,000 Central American refugees requesting asylum and the 5,000 Cubans stranded in Costa Rica unable to get thru to the U.S.
