Sim card for cellphone?

Hey all I have a phone bought in Mexico for cheap and I wanted to know if it is possible to unlock it here and then get a sim card to use it as is. All I really want to do is be able to text and call...no fancy stuff.

Thoughts?

You can ask for unlocking around at pretty much any legit phone shop, or the little shops in the galeria. So long as its not a new model it should be easy to unlock, then you can get a pay as you go SIM. Movistar probably the best of a bad bunch for a network.

Also worth checking for unlock codes online, there are sites about that give you a code to type in, which unlocks your phone instantly. Failing that you can get a brand new phone for 100 pesos.

Thanks jp! Quick question when you say 'galeria' where do you mean? And it is a movistar phone so that should make it pretty easy.

Sorry, that was a bit vague.
Galerias are the sort of mini malls you see everywhere, and there's usually a phone shop in most of them. There's lots in microcentro off florida if thats any help.
