I am doing a two year masters program at Di Tella beginning in March 2015, and I just received information from the university about health insurance for foreign students. The university requires international students to have health insurance, and recommends this company:

http://utdt.edu/ver_contenido.php?id_contenido=9170&id_item_menu=17730

the cost is USD $116 a month, or $ARG985 a month.

This seems a bit on the edge of the affordability side because I know that public health services are relatively inexpensive anyway and I just need basic stuff should anything come up.

Is it inaccurate to think that this is a bit on the luxurious side of health insurance?

Do you guys know of any other options out there?

Much appreciated!

How do you know you will just need "basic stuff if anything comes up?" What if you get run over by a bus and need major reconstructive surgery?

Hey, I've actually never heard of William Hope so I don't even know if its reputation. That cost seems iike the norm for nice-to-fancy private health insurance for a younger person (20-something to mid-thirties). It does depend on your age, obviously. Prices are very low for under 25 and then jump significantly once you're over 35. I'm sure others can chime in with what they're paying.

The most basic plan at OSDE, for example, which is one of the fanciest insurances, for someone under 35 is definitely over 1000 ARS/month. You should look into CEMIC or Medicus perhaps? There are surely cheaper options but I think both of those are more affordable while also still offering decent coverage.

You shouldn't rely on the public system - most middle/upper-middle-class locals here have private insurance to avoid long wait times and third world standards of care. See if you can pay in pesos when you get here: that would make for a hefty discount.

Public health its ok if you wanna save some money, but Id recommend a private plan from some well known private medicine, and not a new one like William Hope. It seems to me there is some corrupted agreement with the university.
In your place I d go for OSDE, Medicus, Omint, Swiss Medical, the cheapest plan or the public system, which is ok if you dont have money. Most of the more prestigious doctors, heads of private clinics, also work in public hospitals.
