This is a good and easy-to-read chapter about the May revolution by way of a biography of Mariano Moreno, its mastermind (not of the revolution itself but of the government it installed):

It is a bit outdated, as there were interesting findings since its publication a century ago, but good still. It tells the British and American influences in shaping the policies of the first Argentinean government, its internal contradictions, and Moreno's progressiveness and talent albeit his draconian Rousseauism.
