I thought that would get you reading!....why are the locally manufactured lays so expensive now, especially compared to the imported pringles that haven't increased in the recent months. $10 for lays and $14 for the pringles in the tube. Supposedly the import taxes are now over 100% which makes the formerly expensive pringles now seem like a steal.
Yes I know I could make my own, someone says so every time I post, but I don't have time to make bread, tahini, potato chips, shake milk into cream or look after bees, cows, pigs and chickens.

I agree, Bees are hard to look after, but the other stuff you should be able to do. jajaja, Anyway, I can't believe what chips cost here, today I bought a container of Casancrem (which is basically poor quality sour cream) as I am making mexican food tonight. It cost $15 pesos for a 600gr container. I used to buy a larger size of Breakstones sour cream in New York for $1,50 and 99c when it was on sale. What the fffff is going on with the prices, it's out of control.......

Impressive, konargy, what brand was that? I sometimes buy McJoe's, worth it for the name alone. They are less anaemic looking, though often stale.

depends where you get them...My friend bought some lays (in the tube) today and they were 16 pesos (at a Chino)... I saw some pringles at a local store that sells coffee, chocolate, etc and they were being advertised for 17-something.
At my local supermarket, I think Pringles are 14 and Lays are about 12/13. Most of the medium bags of local chip brands are about 13 too

Lays were 11 pesos at the local chino for a while - they have just ( last week) gone up to 14 .

This is a great "street level" example of why trade barriers [especially in Argentina] have never worked to the benefit of the consumer.

Some chinese supermarkets sell little bags of home-made chips and other unbranded snacks (often come with a free pet cockroach or weevil...) That's the reality for most people on a peso wage - those and pan frances, cheap deli-cuts, sachets of milk, etc...

Yes, thats the reality for most people -- get out of the expat protection zone and you really see it. And Argentina is a major agricultural nation!
